When is it too late?

You are sitting fat & happy in Hamburg in 1938 and you are Jewish, or gay, or gypsy, or communist, or something. Things are not looking all that good and rumors abound. "Just got to think about getting out in a year or two!, you say. Suddenly you find yourself taking an involuntary trip, watching the scenery roll by between the boards of an old box car! Too late!

You are sitting fat & happy in Dallas in 2004 and you are an environmentalist, or atheist, or black, or a dissident of some sort. Things are not looking all that good and rumors abound. "Just got to think about getting out in a year or two!," you say. Suddenly ... what? Did it become too late? Maybe you can be safe for five years. Maybe the Reichsmarshal for Immigration will close the borders tomorrow. I don't know what will happen but, more importantly, neither do those still behind those borders. I'm not there; many of you are. Lovely thought, no?

Can't happen in your country? You are an American of Japanese descent, sitting fat & happy in San Francisco in 1941. You don't get a chance to think about running off to Brazil, because you and your family are on a bus to an internment camp. Your home, business and wealth all legally confiscated by the government. At least you will be allowed to live.

Am I Chicken Little running about yelling that the sky is falling? Could be. If you're a gambler, throw the dice. Isn't it exciting?

    Roy,

I became convinced a year ago that the political thing up there in the States is so broke there ain' no fixing it, and so I got the heck out.

As a gay man, it was clear to me that the theofascists who are in cahoots with the Straussians that are running that thing up there have an agenda, and I am on it. And they made that pretty clear with some FBI harassment and intimidation.

So I got the heck out. And if you or anyone else on this forum wants to know what my reasoning was, they can find it on my web site at www.bidstrup.com/exile.htm.

Yes, I believe that it is going to go from bad to worse, to hellacious. So I would advise anyone who is not comfortable with the turn of events up there, to get out while the getting is good.

The current Front Page Editorial on my web site details where I think this thing is going. The predictions are based entirely on leaked memos, policy statements, campain pledges, and administration officials' comments. None of it is speculation at its core. And it is not very pretty reading.

So if any of the readers of this are serious about expatriation, I would recommend reading my essay in the recommendations at the bottom of the tribe homepage. It will give you a lot of information about exile that you may not have thought about, and which you won't find in the guide books.

Regards to all from sunny Costa Rica,
    Scott
